Can I add an accessory dwelling unit?

Likely coming, but not yet built into any district's use table as of this pack's source date. Port St. Lucie's citywide Definitions chapter (Sec. 153.01) now defines an accessory dwelling unit as a secondary unit with its own bathroom, kitchen, and separate entrance, distinct from a guest house, but no residential district's use table (Secs. 158.071 through 158.081) or the accessory-use standards (Sec. 158.217) lists ADU as a permitted or special exception use yet. This matters because Florida Statute 163.31771, strengthened by 2025's SB-48, required every municipality to adopt an ordinance allowing ADUs in single-family zones by December 1, 2025, and bars an outright ban, a size cap under 1,000 square feet, or a blanket owner-occupancy requirement. This pack's source is codified through Ord. No. 25-68 (adopted November 24, 2025), about a week before that deadline, and the City appears to have added the ADU definition without yet amending the district tables. Confirm directly with the Planning and Zoning Department at 772-871-5212 whether an ADU-enabling amendment has since taken effect; do not assume ADUs are barred based on this pack alone.
