Can I add an accessory dwelling unit?
Columbia's ordinance allows Accessory Dwellings where Table 4.3.9.A-2 designates them for the district, with citywide standards: one per lot, accessory to a House or Townhouse used for household living, detached units at least 10 feet from the primary dwelling, habitable space capped at 600 sq ft (1,000 sq ft in CD-2), and shared ownership and utility connections with the primary dwelling. The accessory building also has to fit the district's accessory setback columns and the 60 percent footprint rule outside CD-2. Confirm the district designation and any overlay review with Development Services.
