All districts
Detached accessory buildings in residential districts must sit in the rear yard (or a side yard meeting the principal building's setbacks), stay at least 5 feet from rear and side lot lines, 10 feet from the main building, and 10 feet from accessory buildings on adjoining parcels, and may not exceed 15 feet in height (Section 5.2.A.4). They may cover no more than 30 percent of the rear yard, and all covered accessory buildings together may not exceed 75 percent of the principal building's floor area (Section 5.2.A.4.c, d). Exterior materials must be similar to and coordinated with the house; moveable carports and temporary greenhouses are not permitted (Section 5.2.A.4.i, j).
In-ground swimming pools need a 10 foot setback from rear and side lot lines (Section 5.2.A.4.k). On corner and double-frontage lots, accessory buildings observe front setbacks from both streets, and 15 feet where rear yards meet (Section 5.2.A.5). No accessory building may go up before the main building is enclosed, and none may house a business (Section 5.2.A.6, 7). Outside the one- and two-family districts, accessory buildings need Planning Commission site plan review (Section 5.2.B).
