All districts

One-, two-, and multiple-family dwellings need 2 parking spaces per unit; dwellings in the Central Business District need 1.5 per unit (§ 770-107). No off-street parking is required in the CBD except for residential, hotel, and institutional uses (§ 770-106E).

  • For one- and two-family homes, parking goes in the side or rear yard on the same lot. Front-yard parking is allowed only by Engineering Department permit, as a horseshoe driveway (lot at least 60 feet wide, front yard 35 feet deep and 2,100 square feet) or a T-shaped driveway (lot at least 50 feet wide, front yard 30 feet deep and 1,500 square feet) (§ 770-105F(1)).
  • One driveway per dwelling, at least 8 feet wide, hard surfaced. Gravel is prohibited. Surfaces must be asphalt, concrete, or approved pervious or permeable pavement; loose aggregate, gravel, stone, unreinforced grass or sod, and soil are all prohibited (§ 770-109A). Ribbon driveways with two wheel tracks are allowed (§ 770-105F(1)(c)).
  • A standard space is 9 by 20 feet at 90 degrees, with a 20 foot two-way aisle (§ 770-109F).
  • Commercial headline ratios: retail 1 per 250 square feet usable, offices 1 per 225, restaurants and bars 1 per 65, medical 1 per 200 (§ 770-107).
  • One commercial vehicle up to 6,000 pounds, owned by an occupant, may be kept per dwelling unit (§ 770-28).
