All districts

Signs live in Chapter 20 of the Code of Ordinances, not the zoning ordinance. Building-mounted signs for nonresidential uses (Sec. 20-6): wall sign area up to 1 square foot per foot of principal building frontage up to 150 feet, plus 0.10 square feet per foot beyond that, minimum allowance 32 square feet; window signs up to 25 percent of street-level glass without a permit; awning signs on the valance only; projecting signs prohibited outside the TND district; electronic message boards capped at 32 square feet. Special land uses in residential areas get at most 12 square feet of building signage.

Ground signs (Sec. 20-7): base standard 7 feet tall, 40 square feet per face, 10 feet back from the right-of-way, one per parcel, with modifiers: subtract 8 square feet in residential, TND, CF, O-1, and C-1 districts; add 20 square feet and one extra sign for 300 plus feet of major-road frontage; add 2 feet of height and 24 square feet on rights-of-way of 120 feet or more; add 20 square feet for multi-tenant parcels. Electronic portions are capped at 60 percent of permitted area. Garage sale signs are limited to 6 square feet and 4 feet tall, on private property with permission, for the sale days only (Sec. 10.0355.E).
