All districts
Accessory structures/uses are allowed with any lawfully existing principal use, must meet the district's own setback/height/coverage rules, and (with listed exceptions) may not exceed 20 percent of the principal building's floor area or the lot's ground area, whichever is more restrictive. In the RE and RS-1 through RS-3 single-family districts specifically, only listed accessory uses are allowed (yard structures, pools/decks/screen enclosures, tennis/pickleball/sport courts, skateboard ramps, gazebos/pergolas, hot tubs/saunas/cabanas, fences per Sec. 158.216, storage/workshop buildings up to 500 sq. ft. cumulative, solar systems, outdoor fireplaces/kitchens, doghouses up to 4x4x6 feet, noncommercial greenhouses, driveways/patios, one dish antenna up to 12 feet diameter/15 feet height, and amateur radio antennas). Detached or attached garages are capped at 900 square feet (1,600 sq. ft. on lots 18,500 sq. ft. or larger) and limited to the principal roofline or 22 feet, whichever is more restrictive; carports are capped at 200 square feet (400 sq. ft. on larger lots) under the same height cap. Accessory structures on non-single-family lots must meet Sec. 158.237 site plan standards, and accessory structures over the size limits need a variance unless set in a PUD ordinance.
